Duluth Poetry Chapter Coffee Chats

August 6, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Poets gather to read, workshop and free-write together. The “coffee chat” meetings are oriented around connection and organic mentorship among other people interested in writing and sharing poetry. During the meetings, the Duluth Poetry Chapter also organizes and plans poetry events, motivates & informs each other of grant and submission opportunities.
—————————
Generally, the meeting flow is as follows:
– Introductions & a poetry read-around
– Sharing of any local poetry news, upcoming local events, grant deadlines, submissions (regionally & noteworthy ones nationally/internationally)
– League of Minnesota Poets updates
– Free-writing session & writing prompt
– “Open table” to discuss anything on attendees’ radar/mind that week (such as projects they’d like to do as a group, a chapbook they’ve read, etc.)
– Organizing & delegation for putting together poetry events
– Celebrate any “publishing wins” of members in attendance
—————————
The following meetings will primarily be focused on…
Feb. 5: “Poetry SLAM DUNK” writing prompts & planning
Feb. 12: TBD
Feb. 19: TBD
Feb. 26: Final Poetry SLAM DUNK prep before March 5th
—————————
After grabbing coffee or other goodies, please meet the chapter UPSTAIRS in the “Room of Misfit Chairs” at Wussow’s Concert CafĂ©. (When you first enter from the street side & before entering the coffee shop, the door to the right leads up stairs to the room).
The Duluth Poetry Chapter is a part of the League of Minnesota Poets non-profit. Attendance to the meetings is free, though paying for an annual membership with LOMP allows for further benefits, such as receiving chapbooks and newsletters by mail, discounted or free admission to LOMP events (a camping event, Spring & Fall Conferences, etc.), discounted contest rates, and the ability to include published books in LOMP book fairs. Assistance is available for anyone hoping to be involved but is unable to pay the annual membership fee.
